It's Harbison at Emmanuel Music

The local artistic guards keep changing - sometimes for the saddest reasons. Only weeks after the sudden passing of Craig Smith, Emmanuel Music has announced that John Harbison, the noted composer and MIT Professor who has long had a relationship with Emmanuel, will assume the role of Acting Artistic Director. He will collaborate with Michael Beattie, the associate conductor and chorus master. Beattie and Harbison will divide the current season's conducting responsibilities between them (with some as-yet-unannounced guest conductors), and will together implement the 2008-2009 season, which will be presented "as a tribute to Smith and follow the outline of his advance planning."

Emmanuel has also announced that a memorial concert is being planned for Craig Smith to take place in Emmanuel Church on his birthday, January 31.
