The artistic director of the California Musical Theatre in Sacramento, California, has been revealed as a donor to the campaign to pass Proposition 8. And musical theatre queens are NOT happy. Can you spell p-r-o-f-e-s-s-i-o-n-a-l s-u-i-c-i-d-e? Elsewhere, of course, protests of the involvement of the Mormon and Catholic churches in the political process around Prop. 8 have been surfacing - perhaps Prop. 8 could emerge as a second, mini-Stonewall moment for gay rights? Certainly it's past time to reconsider the tax-exempt status of both churches, given their repeated political actions in defense of bigotry. After all, actions should have consequences.
Update - the artistic director has already stepped down.
In related news, a protest of Prop. 8 is scheduled for Boston on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1:30 PM in City Hall Plaza.
