This weekend . . .
. . . is, as always, a busy one. I've already heard the Handel and Haydn "Returns and Farewell" concert - with featured truly haunting moods conjured by conductor Jane Glover. (The program repeats Sunday at Symphony Hall.) Tonight I am finally catching up with the Actors' Shakespeare Project production of Taming of the Shrew - perhaps, I confess, my least favorite of Shakespeare plays - followed tomorrow by Boston Lyric Opera's intriguing new version of Carmen, which reportedly cuts much recitative in favor of the original dialogue. At left is Dana Beth Miller as Carmen. Intriguing indeed.
